Mansfield University is one of fourteen institutions operated by the State System of Higher Education in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The university has approximately 3,500 students who are enrolled in a variety of liberal arts and professional academic programs.  

Mansfield is a rural community located in a scenic, mountainous region 30 miles south of Corning, NY and 48 miles north of Williamsport, PA. The area is noted for its quality of life and numerous recreational opportunities. The university falls within Tioga County which is home to three state parks, two federal parks, seven lakes, the Pine Creek Rail Trail (hiking, bicycling, x-country skiing trail), and the 50-mile long gorge of the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon.

Tioga County is part of the greater Twin Tiers region which encompasses the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania and the Southern Tier of New York. Regional attractions include the Corning Museum of Glass, the Finger Lakes and wineries of upstate New York, the National Soaring and National War Plane Museums, the Watkins Glen International Raceway, and the Susquehanna River and Endless Mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania.
